An exceptional school shaped by history

Lycée Hoche has been part of the French national heritage in the Paris (Île-de-France) region for over two centuries. More than just a prominent state school in Versailles established by Napoleon in 1803, it is a place where generations of students have grown and found their path. Today, it welcomes secondary school pupils from the age of 11 to 18 (collège and lycée) as well as undergraduate students (classes préparatoires) in a boarding school preparing for the highly selective Grandes Écoles in science and economics in peaceful surroundings that carry both history and a strong spirit of academic ambition.

A place where history is lived every day

Right in the heart of Versailles, Lycée Hoche offers a truly unique setting, with buildings listed as Historic Monuments. The former Queen’s Convent, inaugurated in 1772 under the reign of Louis XV, once welcomed the young ladies of the French court, located less than a mile away at the Palace of Versailles, providing an education distinguished by discipline and the prestige of royal patronage.

Filled with beauty and history, these spaces do more than impress, they invite students to carry forward a living legacy.

Here, tradition is something we truly cherish. Studying at Lycée Hoche means spending every day in a place where the past is still present, quietly inspiring the work and aspirations of today.

Supporting every student’s success

Excellence has long been part of Lycée Hoche’s identity, supported by dedicated teachers and a legacy of achievement that places it among the nation’s elite institutions. Its preparatory classes in science and economics are firmly established at the highest national level and help shape tomorrow’s leaders in science and business.

But beyond remarkable results, our school places great importance on each student as an individual. Building confidence, encouraging growth and ensuring well-being are central priorities because success is most meaningful when students feel supported and able to flourish.

Rooted in its community, open to the world

For more than two centuries, Lycée Hoche has evolved alongside society, adapting to change while staying true to its values. It continues to stand for an ambitious and open vision of public education.

Its influence extends far beyond Versailles. Thanks to the quality and diversity of its academic programmes, its unique setting, and its strong republican values, it attracts families and students who are looking for both high standards and a place where they can truly develop their potential.

A lively and connected community

What makes Lycée Hoche special is the energy of the people who bring it to life. Around the school is a vibrant network of parents, alumni, associations and partners who all contribute greatly to its daily events.

Parents’ associations play an active role in representing families, while other groups support projects and foster a strong sense of community. The Friends of the Museum help preserve and highlight the school’s rich collection, and the alumni network keeps connections alive across generations, offering guidance and inspiration.

More than 2,500 students are deeply involved in this dynamic environment. Whether through cultural, scientific, sports or artistic clubs, student organisations or civic initiatives, there are countless ways to express oneself and make the most of school life.

A shared vision for the future

Our school carries forward a vision first imagined by a queen who saw this place as one dedicated to education and personal growth. For over two centuries, that vision has remained the same: to place knowledge and human development at the heart of everything.

Today, this shared ambition continues to guide Lycée Hoche, making it an outstanding school, both forward-looking and confident in the talent of each and every student it welcomes.

I warmly invite you to explore the richness of our school.
